A Patron Exhibition is an exhibition which is commissioned by a single person (Patron) or group of individuals (Patrons).
The concept suggests that an artist's interpretation of a particular subject is of interest to a commissioning individual or group of Patron(s).
Prior to such an exhibition being commissioned, Patrons should know of and have respect for the artwork of the visual art professional selected to create this collection of artwork.
How is such a project realized ?
- An individual or group of Patrons enters into a contract with a selected visual artist.
- A subject to be interpreted is decided upon.
- A time frame is agreed upon.
- A date and time for the exhibition is agreed upon.
- Funding for the project is provided by the Patron(s): i.e.: Each Patron pays for one or more pieces to be created. As the Patrons are paying for work sight unseen, (yet to be created), they are eligible for a discount on the visual artist's standard retail prices.
- Also, a life insurance policy on the visual artist is purchased to protect each Patron's investment.
- The visual artist over the specified period of time, then creates the contracted collection of art works.
- Once the collection is completed, a private reception and unveiling is held at a mutually agreed upon time and place. During this event, Patrons and their guests "discover" their commissioned exhibition.
- Through a name-draw Patrons select which artwork (s) from the collection become theirs.
- Such an exhibition should be made up of enough artworks to provide even the last Patron called to have a selection of works from which they may select the one(s) they wish to take home.
Patron Exhibition Payment Schedule:
- Participation fees (based on size category selections) must be paid in full within the one year period during which the paintings are being completed.
- Payments may be made in the form of a cheque covering the total amount of moneys owed (including Provincial and Federal sales taxes - if applicable) or
- by no more than ten post-dated cheques covering the total amount owing.
Note: A Patron Exhibition is not unveiled until all artworks are paid for in full. |
