Collection of/de  the/le Rideau Club

This portrait was commissioned by the Rideau Club of Ottawa to mirror the previously commissioned portrait of the Honourable John A Macdonald - a dear friend of G. E. Cartier and partner in the creation of the Confederation of Canada.   Also it is noteworthy that the Rideau Club, created in 1865, was founded by none other than George Étienne Cartier and John A Macdonald (amongst others). The Club, which predates Confederation and the establishment of Ottawa as the capital, is the oldest social club in Canada.                                                                                                                                                        

Ce portrait fut commandé par le Rideau Club d'Ottawa. Il miroite le portrait de l'honorable John A. Macdonald, l'autre Père de la Confédération canadienne. Il est à noter que les fondateurs du Rideau Club, formé en 1865, sont aussi George Étienne Cartier et John A Macdonald (entre autres). Le Club précède par 22 mois  la Confédération et l’établissement d’Ottawa comme capital.
